Woody
My name is Woody and my friends at Mickaboo Companion Bird Rescue have taken me in.  I am looking for my forever home.  Here is a little more information about me.

Woodpecker A. Conure here, but you can call me Woody for short. You may think that I look like a Peach-Fronted Conure but I'm actually a Half-Moon -- a bit smaller and the top of my beak is lighter in color. I'm a feisty little redhead with a lot of energy in a small package. Even though I weigh just 81 grams -- a feather under three ounces -- I have every bit as much attitude as the larger aratinga conures, and almost as much voice!

Nobody from Mickaboo knows much about my past and I'm not divulging any secrets. I was brought into a shelter in Santa Clara County recently and, since they had never seen a bird like me before they called the experts at Mickaboo. I appear to be young, healthy and hardy. In my foster home I am eating vegetables and pellets and playing with all the toys they give me. I'm a curious, outgoing bird and like being around people. I don't know any human words but have an impressive array of jungle sounds that I use to call my foster dad or greet the morning sun. I can be a little bit loud at times but, hey, I AM a conure, after all.

As you can see I am a very attractive and distinctive bird with my long tail, slender build, white eye patches and of course my apricot colored forehead. I would like to go to a home where I can get plenty of love and attention from people who will accept me as a big bird in a small, red-headed package.   Please contact Mickaboo Companion Bird Rescue to learn more about me!

On July 5th of this year, Trace Elementary School was destroyed by a five alarm fire.  As a result of this tragedy, there has been an outpouring of community support to help meet the $100,000 insurance deductible, as well as provide funds for books and materials so the teachers have something to work with as they start the new school year today.

One of the community activities was a huge garage sale which took place two weeks ago.  Neighbors donated items to be sold at this sale, and ALL proceeds went to the teachers at Trace Elementary.  San Jose Animal Advocates had a table where we sold donated pet and animal-related items.  In the end, we estimate that we contributed about $200, and the sale as a whole raised close to $5,000!  It was great to see the community rally for such a great cause, and have a chance to chat with our fellow animal-loving neighbors.

We love spreading the word about San Jose Animal Advocates, and were thrilled when Jennifer Zhang of the Oakland Dog Examiner blog contacted us.  She writes a wonderful blog about all things animal in the Bay Area, and if you are an animal lover, you must subscribe.

We truly appreciate her taking the time to interview us and write a piece about our community-based group!  Thanks again Jennifer!

Itty Bitty Orphan Kitty Rescue’s Pre-wean Kitten Project provides
Pre-Wean Kitten Packs to members of the public who find orphaned
kittens so that they can properly care for these kittens themselves
rather than surrender them to a shelter where they will be euthanized.
We currently distribute these packs free of charge through all 34 Pet
Food Express stores
, as well as through two Bay Area shelters--Palo
Alto Animal Services (PAAS)
and San Jose Animal Care and Services
(SJACS)
.  We are working to expand our project to help more of our Bay
Area shelters to provide people with an alternative to surrendering
pre-wean kittens to shelters.

Each Pre-Wean Kitten Pack comes with instructions and emergency
supplies so you can start caring for your kitten right away.

For information on how you can help support this very important
project, please contact us!
