PictureBig Bear Cub
He's as big as a bear but much friendlier! Bear is a Sable Leonberger and Akita mix who is in desperate need of a temporary, or even better - a permanent home! Leonberger's are known for traits such as companionship, loyalty, confidence and intelligence.

Bear's people surrendered him to the San Jose shelter when they were forced to move. Their new location does not allow large dogs. That was bad news for Bear.

He lived with children, a cat and a Chihuahua. This 100+ lb lug would wait for the little Chihuahua to finish his dinner before Bear would eat his.

Please help us save this big boy and get him out of the shelter before it is too late.

PicturePlease be my furever person!

Please adopt Seamus today before his fate becomes more dire. You can meet him at 2750 Monterey Road in San Jose.

Pretty "Lady" Needs a Home!
PictureLady needs to be treated like a lady!
This senior girl, estimated age of 14, ended up in the shelter due to neglect by her owners.  Lady has some arthritis (although she is being given meds and gets along fine), a flea allergy, and is in desperate need of a bath and grooming.  Nevertheless, her tail wagged as she was taken out of her kennel at the shelter.  She enjoyed standing in the sun, even for a few moments.
We are looking for a special foster home for this special lady so she can enjoy her golden years.  I think we owe Lady that much, don't you?

Complete our foster application here, and we'll provide more details on how you can help us rescue her!

UPDATE: 6/21/13 - We are doing a little happy dance. Sweet Bailey was rescued today! Updates to follow soon.
PictureI'm scared and just want a safe home.
This sweet older girl needs a temporary home immediately

For thirteen years she lived with her family peacefully... until the baby came and then Bailey was abandoned at the San Jose shelter.

Bailey is scared in the shelter environment so her pictures do not reflect her true personality. She is a typical Siamese; therefore, chatty but not overly so, AND she loves being petted.

At 13 years old, this gorgeous girl deserves a safe and loving home with people who will dote on her. Can you provide that? Please email us ASAP if you can help this sweetheart at: [email protected]

If you can provide a temporary or permanent home for this young sweet cat, please email us NOW at [email protected] as Manny needs to be rescued immediately

Please help us save this beautiful boy!

UPDATE - 5/31/13 Thanks to your networking, Sammy went to a loving foster home yesterday. As soon as he's had a chance to relax and get comfortable, he will be available for adoption through St. Francis Animal Protection Society.
PicturePlease Save Sammy!
We have an extra special place in our hearts for Snowshoe kitties. Sammy's person could no longer care for him and his five other roommates so he finds himself in a cage at the San Jose shelter. Sweet Sammy deserves to be in a loving home!

He's about eight years old and also lived with dogs. He is a very affectionate boy. The noisy shelter is a frightening place for him. He simply needs a safe home where his true personality can blossom again.

Snowshoes are fairly rare and are known for their sweet, mellow temperaments and, of course, white feet. They are typically very social and devoted to their owners. According to Wikipedia , Snowshoes are known for their fondness of running water and even swimming!

Sammy needs a foster home immediately! Please help us save this wonderful boy. If you can provide a temporary or permanent home, please contact us today at [email protected]

UPDATE - 5/30/13 Extra, extra...read all about it! After a longish stint in the shelter, Dexter is in a foster home tonight. Dexter is available for adoption through St. Francis Animal Protection Society!
PictureYes, I know I'm handsome.
This beautiful boy was adopted from the San Jose shelter and returned. He needs a foster home urgently! The shelter is very stressful for him and he's not handling it well.

Dexter is a 1.5 year old, neutered male Border Collie mix who gets along with other dogs. He especially likes to play with a tennis ball.

Border Collies are an extremely intelligent and very active breed. Dexter will require regular exercise and mental stimulation.  He also needs some further training.

If you are interested in giving Dexter a temporary or permanent home, please contact us so we can get this guy out of his scary shelter environment and into a home! Email: [email protected]

UPDATE: 5/16/13 - Rasta was resuced! He was pulled by the Humane Society of Silicon Valley and will be up for adoption soon.
PictureRasta wants to get out of the shelter
Rasta means 'truth' in Persian. The truth is this innocent boy is the victim of divorce - not once but TWICE!

Rasta is a gorgeous blue, merle and tan Australian Cattle dog mix. We've heard he is great with kids and lived with cats. He's about six years old.

He was surrendered, reclaimed and then surrendered again to the San Jose shelter. He is very upset to be in a noisy kennel and needs a foster home immediately

Please contact us if you are interested in giving this boy a temporary or permanent home. Email us at: [email protected] Please share him with your social networks.

UPDATE: 6/3/13 - Miss Daisy was adopted at Maddie's Pet Adoption Days!
UPDATE: 5/17/13 - Woo Hoo! Maddy was rescued yesterday by the Human Society of Silicon Valley! Dumboo, now Daisy, is in a wonderful foster home. Daisy is available for adoption through St. Francis Animal Protection Society!
PictureMiss Dumboo
You've heard of pocket pets? We think Dumboo is a pocket Labrador. She's a Dachshund, Labrador retriever mix about a year and a half old  and weighs about 15-20 lbs.

She and her pal, Maddy were surrendered to the San Jose shelter together. These two young girls are terrified in the shelter environment and do not show well in their kennels. However, when they are taken to the play area, they become different dogs! They relax and transform into curious, happy puppies.  They are especially attached to one of the staff, Kelly and love to perch in her lap.

PictureMiss Maddy
Maddy is a female Chihuahua mix about two years old.

Dumboo and Maddy need foster homes immediately and would love to be kept together if possible. We know once they are out of the shelter, their personalities will continue to blossom.

If you are interested in fostering one or both of these girls, please contact us at: [email protected]

PictureSuper Sweet Sammy
Sammy and Siemen are two senior kitties who were owner surrendered to the San Jose shelter. They need a foster home immediately as they only have a short time left.

Sammy is a big bundle of love at twenty pounds and has an outgoing friendly personality. Although Siemen is a little on the shy side, he is also a sweetie and likes to carry on conversations with you. He's a bit unsettled in the shelter environment.

Both cats are declawed in the front and must be kept indoors.

Please share these big beauties with your social network! We want to get them out of the shelter as soon as possible. If you are interested in Sammy and Siemen, please email us at: [email protected].
