This senior Maltese mix couple need a patient, loving foster home immediately. They are very frightened in the chaotic and noisy shelter environment. They were found on the streets as overheated, matted messes. They look like different dogs now! Below are their before shots prior to the San Jose shelter staff grooming them:

These two got to spend time together today and enjoyed being with each other again. The female kissed her boyfriend's face all over! Clearly they are bonded pair and need to be kept together.

Both dogs are senior but the male seems the younger of the two. Both have cataracts and the female may be partially blind. If you are interested in fostering this sweet pair, please contact [email protected].

UPDATE: 5/8/13 - Woot! Missy has a foster home and we are so delighted! Missy is available for adoption through St. Francis Animal Protection Society! 

Missy is a gorgeous two year old Boxer/Pittie mix located at the San Jose shelter. We are urgently seeking a foster home to get her out. 

We've heard that she has a wonderful personality and is great with kids! She's rather confused to find herself at the shelter. This darling dog loves to go on walks and also enjoys snuggling in your lap, giving kisses and nose presses.

UPDATE: 5/17/13 - Happy day in South San Jose! Sean Jr. was adopted by a wonderful lady named Marilyn this afternoon. He will live out his golden years in luxury with love.

Can you believe Sean Jr's people gave him up at 15 years of age? Luckily he's in a comfortable foster home looking for his furever home.

Sean is a 50 pound, yellow Labrador Retriever. He's a mellow boy who gets excited to chase tennis balls. He's a breeze to walk around the block, too! If you drop the leash, he follows you. . . unless there's an interesting smell to investigate. Possessing perfect house manners, Sean can be left to roam free when you are out. You will find him sleeping at the door waiting for your return.  He currently lives with two large crazy teenage Labs and gets along great with them.

Sean recently had a dental, is up to date on vaccines, is neutered and heart worm negative. Recent lab work and x-rays show a healthy dog. He's on Tramadol for his achy joints and Melatonin to keep his body in rhythm.

UPDATE: 5/2/13 - Drum Roll Please! Brandy - now named Molly - busted out of the shelter and is in a loving foster home in San Mateo. Molly is available to adopt through St. Francis Animal Protection Society.

We wonder what sort of breed mix she is - but one thing is certain. She is definitely CUTE!

This little Pomeranian mix named Brandy needs a foster home ASAP to get out of the San Jose shelter. She is about 5-7 years old and weighs only 12 pounds. How can you resist that face??

She will need a dental soon to get her mouth puppy breath fresh. The cost will be covered by the rescue organization.

UPDATE: 5/14/13 - Guess who was adopted! Wink was.  ;)

We are assisting Dr. Eva Roehrkasse at VCA Blossom Hill Veterinary Hospital with finding this fabulous boy a loving home.

Wink was shot twice in his head with a pellet gun. He was rescued by VCA Blossom Hill but they were unable to save his right eye. He has recovered from that ordeal and now enjoys bird watching through the window and throwing his cat nip toys. Wink likes to snuggle up with his person at night, too.

This five year old neutered boy is vaccinated, micro-chipped and FELV/FIV negative. He has a great personality and needs a patient home to show him the love he deserves.

UPDATE: 4/26/13 - Happy Friday and guess what?!? Brody found a furever home! Congrats you stoic young man.

Brody is a 8-10 month old, Cairn Terrier mix at the San Jose shelter. He needs an immediate foster home as the shelter is overcrowded!

We are assisting Furry Friends Rescue in finding him an experienced and patient foster home to bring him around. He is an under-socialized guy who lived and played with other small dogs. He was kept in the backyard and wasn't allowed indoors. 

Brody is a stoic little man who shows no aggression. He can be handled, picked up, carried and walked on leash. And, he does fine in a crate. Although Brody doesn't mind being held or cuddled, he  doesn't understand what it means...yet. He needs someone to teach him.

Brody asks you to share his plea with your friends and network! Let's get him out of the shelter.

Tilly, a 10-12 year old female Labrador/Beagle mix, needs a new temporary or permanent home. The canine step-siblings in her current foster situation get on her nerves. She would rather have her person all to herself. We think Tilly would do best as an only dog.

UPDATE: 4/18/13 - The Fluffy Pair have been rescued. Look at Jake's amazing transformation! He is available through Heart Bandits. To adopt him, email Linda at [email protected].

Jake, 12 years old and Junior, 7 years old are a pair of American Eskimo Dogs at the San Jose Animal Care Center in need of rescue. Their person passed away so they were brought to the shelter.

We are working with Heart Bandits to get these guys out of the shelter. Jake and Junior are ONLY available through rescue.

What is an American Eskimo Dog?    American Eskimo Dogs are often called "Spitz", however, "Spitz" is not a breed of dog, but rather a group of breeds with similar characteristics. Some of the other breeds included in the Spitz group are Keeshonden, Finnish Spitz, and Pomeranians.

The preferred nickname for the breed is "Eskie". American Eskimo Dogs are highly intelligent and make wonderful companion animals. Eskies have white or cream colored coats and come in standard (15"-19" - at shoulder), miniature (12"-15"), and toy (9"-12") sizes.

UPDATE: 4/5/2013 - Oh happy day! Sir Lance is in a fantastic foster home. He is available for adoption through St. Francis Animal Protection Society. 

We are currently looking for a temporary home for a 4 year old Golden Retriever/Chow that the shelter volunteers have named Lance, for Lancelot.  He is a total volunteer favorite  who say he is social, extremely friendly and very loveable!   He was an owner surrender but we don't know if he lived with cats or children.  Based on how tolerant he is to invasive handling, chances are that he would do well with children.  He is social with other dogs.

Our latest candidate who needs our help is a young (approx 3 year old) Puggle.  He came in to the shelter with another dog so we are assuming he is social with other dogs.
