I'm a gentle girl looking for a home
UPDATE:  1/29/2013:  Odessa is going to a wonderful foster to adopt home tonight!  Thank you to everyone who shared her story!

Meet Odessa.  The shelter believes that she is about 13 years old.  This girl is a favorite among the shelter cat volunteers.  She is described as very gentle, affectionate, easy going and a cat that loves to give kisses.

Due to a minor dental issue, the shelter is only giving her until 1/30 to be rescued or she will be euthanized.  We are looking for a loving home for Odessa (temporary or permanent).  Did you know that black animals often get overlooked at shelters?

Please help us find her a home ASAP!  Black kitties are extra special, especially mature ones.  Contact [email protected] or complete our adoption application

We are so lucky to have so many local animal rescue groups  looking out for the welfare of  our homeless animals.  The following story is one that emphasizes the compassion of the tireless rescue community on behalf of animals who have no other advocates.  This story is about Unconditional Love Rescue's life-saving actions for a cat who had been hit by a train.  Please share this story to help us find a home for Choo Choo.

Having a bad day can mean so many different things….a bad hair day, a bad day at work…but how about a bad day at the tracks - when you get hit by a train?! Now how about if you’re a cat?

Well, it wasn’t a bad dream for ChooChoo, but a horrifying and painful reality.

We don’t know what made this boy hang out by the railroad….didn’t he hear the upcoming train?....well, the train hit him and hit him hard!

Our introduction to ChooChoo began with a frantic phone call from a local shelter.

A heavily bleeding cat with a violently ripped limb and facial trauma is not exactly adoption material; usually not even a candidate to consider saving.

But while ChooChoo was having the worst day of his life he encountered some incredibly caring people:

  • the train conductor who cared enough to call for help;
  • the shelter veterinarian who was willing to save his life
  • the rescue group ready to do whatever it took to save him.

The world was rooting for ChooChoo’s survival!

The first two days were a real rollercoaster; it was touch and go. It was a very emotional time for everybody evolved. As for ChooChoo, he pulled a lucky ticket at the end: not only did he survive this unbelievable ordeal, but is doing well!

Hello! My name is Choo Choo.
After very needed critical medical care and a limb amputation he was ready for some R&R to heal his physical and mental scars.

ChooChoo is a special boy who had a sad start to his life.

Amazingly, he has demonstrated to us that if you have the will to live you can even take on a “train” and survive!

Now, two months later, ChooChoo is ready to find his new family that will shower him with love and attention and will keep him safe. This energetic boy LOVES being around people and he is quite a KISSER and a TALKER:)

Having three legs does not stop ChooChoo from being a happy boy! He gets along pretty much with everybody: cats, dogs, people. He loves to play with toys and lay across your lap:)

Choo Choo is available for adoption through Unconditional Love Rescue.  These kind folks would also appreciate any donation to help them to continue to save animals like Choo Choo.  Read about their rescue and how to donate on their website.

We have forged a partnership with Cancer Companion Pets, a new nonprofit organization that helps place shelter pets with cancer survivors as well as provide pet support services for cancer survivors and their caregivers.

Yoda's guardian has terminal cancer and he no longer can care for him.  Yoda is a 3 year old gorgeous lynx point Siamese who has some Maine Coon in him.  This boy is FULL  of love and at over 20 pounds, he has lots of love to give.  Yoda is so laid back and just wants to provide love and companionship.  He is comfortable with children, dogs and even other cats.  A special shout out to Nikki at Tailsnaps for translating Yoda's big heart through photography.  Yoda's entire photo shoot can be seen here

If you might be interested in providing Yoda a temporary or permanent home, please contact [email protected].  Yoda is neutered and up to date on his vaccinations.

UPDATE 1/10/2012:  The Siberian Beauty is now in demand!!!  She will be rescued 1/11/2012 and be put in a foster home.  We'll post when we know she is up for adoption.  "Bear" ended up being reclaimed by his owner.  We are glad he has been reunited with his owners and can sleep in his own bed again! The Siberian beauty is being taken care of by BASH (Bay Area Siberian Husky) Rescue.    Feel free to contact them if you are interested in adopting her, or any other Siberian!

The shelter continues to be overrun with wonderful dogs available for rescue.  This email is about 2 mature dogs who deserve a chance.  We are looking for temporary homes for each one of them.  Seriously, senior dogs are so special.  Take a look at these faces, and let us know if you can offer them a warm bed and some love in their golden years!

Ready to foster one of these special dogs?  Complete our foster application ASAP!
SIBERIAN BEAUTY - Estimated age of 5-8.  She is on the rescue list due to a very slight limp (I didn't even notice it).  She is very disoriented at the shelter - she keeps looking for her person.  With proper grooming, she would be beyond gorgeous.  I just met her at the shelter and took the below photo.  She is simply stunning.
BEAR - Senior lab mix of some sort; Large & gentle; good with other dogs, needs rescue because he is older and has bad teeth :(

Handsome Hunter Needs a New Home!
UPDATE: 1/7/2012:  Thanks to our compassion army this sweet boy landed into the loving arms of a wonderful woman.  The time was right for a new dog to come into her life.  May they have many years together!

These days, many people are falling on difficult financial times.  This means that their pets are being affected too.  More and more shelters and local vet offices are taking in pets whose families can no longer care for them.

SJAA has  been contacted by a compassionate animal lover who works at a local vet about Hunter.   Hunter was relinquished to their vet office because his family lost their home.

Hunter is the perfect family dog!  He is a 5 year old black lab/shepherd mix who is neutered, up to date on his shots.  He is great with other dogs and children.  He has not been tested with cats.

Hunter is sad and confused as to why he is no longer with his family.
Anyone interested in Hunter can contact Melissa at [email protected].  Thank you for your compassion!

UPDATE 1/5/2012:  Both of these dogs have been taken into loving foster homes!
Cate, the aussie mix is now up for adoption on Petfinder.
Cody, the pekingese mix is now up for adoption on Petfinder.

Want to start off the year helping a dog in need?  These two beauties are available for *rescue at our local shelter and we are looking for temporary homes for each of them.  Read about fostering here, and then complete our foster application!  As soon as we have a committed foster home, we can arrange for rescue for these dogs.  Both of them can't wait to be in a home and put their shelter life behind them.  Questions about fostering, please contact [email protected].
*These dogs are NOT available for public viewing at the shelter.
