San Jose Animal Advocates

UPDATE 12/10/2012:  Bella and Bert have now been adopted too!!!
UPDATE  11/26/2012:  All three doxies are in foster homes, and the puppy has already been adopted!!  Interested in adopting the others?  Bert - black dachshund and Bella - black and tan dachshund.

San Jose Animal Advocates is facilitating the rescue of 3 adorable dachshund mixes who ran out of time at the San Jose shelter.  These dogs were turned in as "strays" together at the shelter.  Due to how scared they are in the shelter environment, they did not qualify to be put up for adoption.

We have a rescue group who is sponsoring their rescue, but they need committed foster/temporary homes for each one of these dogs.  Given that these dogs already know each other, it's possible to foster more than one together.

Please contact [email protected] or 408 637 1282 if you are interested in opening your home to a dog in need.  Additional photos of these dogs can be viewed here: http://flic.kr/s/aHsjCYzjzL

UPDATE 11/30/2012:   We aren't the only ones who love seniors - we found a wonderful foster home for Max, and now he has dazzled them so much already they are adopting him!!!
We are suckers for the seniors, especially this time of year!  Max, a 12 year old declawed kitty was recently surrendered to the San Jose shelter because his family didn't want him any longer.  What is wrong with people?

Fortunately, SJAA put out a plea for help, and a very compassionate woman who only adopts seniors came to Max's rescue.  Max left the shelter today in the nick of time, and ready to warm a lap during the holiday season!

Meet Brandy & Synder

UPDATE 11/25/2012:  Brandy was rescued by HSSV so if you are interested in adopting her, please go visit her at Humane Society Silicon Valley.  Synder is still available for adoption at the San Jose Animal Care Center.  She looks forward to meeting you!

Brandy and Synder have lived their whole 12 years together.   They now find themselves at the San Jose Animal Care Center and have been waiting for a new home since September.  This special pair represent the many senior kitties who are in our shelters and are so often overlooked.  They may have a little silver in their fur, but senior kitties like Brandy and Synder are calmer than their younger counterparts.  They are wise, and know how to live in the present and provide your home with a gentle soul.

We found this video tribute to Red Dog, an older kitty who was adopted and much loved.  PLEASE view it, and think about adopting a wonderful older cat such as Brandy and Synder..

11/17/2012 UPDATE: Theo gets rescued from the shelter and will be living in San Francisco with his new foster mom.  Stay tuned to find out if this will also be his permanent home!

Check out this big boy!  SJAA is facilitating his rescue from the San Jose shelter and we need a committed temporary (or permanent home) for this guy!

He is great with other dogs, and LOVES people!  Contact [email protected] if you can help!  His face will melt your heart :)

UPDATE 11/18/2012:  Redford is adopted!!
UPDATE 11/13/2012:  Wonderful foster home found!

The other day, we were at the San Jose shelter facilitating the rescue of Thumbelina and Connor (see below), and we met this handsome boy.  He was sprawled out in his cage like he was laying in front of a fireplace.  He didn't seem the least bit stressed, just a friendly dude who wanted to capture our attention.  It was like he was saying, "Why am I here?".  At that moment we knew we needed to get him out of the shelter ASAP!  Due to some minor dental issues (a little tartar and gingivitus) he doesn't qualify for being put up for adoption so he needs to be rescued by a rescue group or he will be euthanized.

In order for us to facilitate his rescue, we need a committed foster home to get him out.  Could it be you?  Fill out our foster application here, and we'll plan his escape!!!

UPDATE 11/26/2012:  Thumbelina has now been named "Fiona" after the Shrek character :)  She is doing VERY well and looks wonderful.  Hooray for Fiona, and special thanks to the amazing staff at Pinnacle Animal Hospital.

UPDATE 11/8/2012:  Both Thumbelina and Connor were rescued yesterday, and the compassionate folks at Pinnacle Animal Hospital are treating both of them.  Poor Thumbelina has some painful eye ulcers, and Connor has a cold and has some high kidney values.  The kind vet staff (special thanks to Dr. Andrea Moore) are going to get these kitties back to health before they move on to their permanent homes (if the vet staff can let them go).

This week we want to introduce you to a couple of special kitties who need a little extra exposure to reveal their awesomeness.  San Jose Animal Advocates is facilitating their rescue, but need committed homes to get them out of the shelter.  Please contact Melissa at [email protected] if you can help!
Meet Thumbelina - Too bad baseball season is over because this girl has some serious mits! (she is a polydactyl)  Unfortunately, she has been stuck in a cage at the shelter, shy and terrorized by her surroundings.  This shy girl is ready to lounge in the sunlight and teach you the wisdom of relaxation that only a wise kitty can.  We need a quiet home for Thumbelina so she can reveal her loving tabby nature.

Meet Connor  - If you've gone orange, you'll never go back!  Orange tabby males have their own fan club and are adored by all who have ever had the pleasure of knowing them!  Connor was an owner surrender (94 year old owner could no longer care for him).  Connor is a mature adult and needs a person younger than 94 to take care of him for the rest of his days.  His loving nature is exemplary, and he is a gentle spirit who is looking to spread a little orange love!

UPDATE:  11/6/2012 - This sweet girl is now in a great foster home who is spoiling her as we speak!

Recently Khira went hiking with her new foster mom.  How happy does she look?

San Jose Animal Advocates is always looking for a way to save more local shelter pets.  Recently, we went down to the shelter to check on the cute corgi mix (below) and we noticed this gentle senior Siberian Husky.  The shelter has aged her at about 13 years old.  When we inquired with the Siberian Rescue group whether they could rescue her, they indicated that their age limit is 7 years old.

We've put out a plea to the community to find a temporary/permanent home for a sweet older girl who shouldn't spend the end of her days in a shelter kennel.  If you are interested in helping this senior girl, please contact us at [email protected].

San Jose Animal Advocates facilitates rescuing local shelter pets by recruiting good foster homes and matching these with approved rescue groups.    Want to learn more about becoming a foster parent?  Read about fostering here - you'll save a life and have an experience you won't forget!

Look at this little cutie who we found down at the shelter!  She needs a good bath, but this little corgi mix is super sweet and gentle.  She is very scared at the shelter, trembling in her kennel, but we are working on getting her out of the shelter into a good foster home!

Are you interested in fostering this girl?  If so, please complete our application here.

Thanks for your compassion.
